Accorhotels wanted to launch a new rooftop bar and restaurant in the business hub of Bengaluru. As the name suggests (KA01), the concept of the restaurant takes inspiration from the streets of late-night India and Bengaluru.
The rooftop resto-bar at ibis Bengaluru City Center brings back the joys of heading to your favorite eatery after a night of partying, where good company and great food is a given. The chefs have curated the best popular after-hours dishes from across India, served with quirky cocktails. The space aspires to reflect a vibrant marriage between a cluster of street-food stalls and a modern desi garage. KA and 01 are the first two, and most essential components of a vehicle number plate in India and in this case Bengaluru. KA represents Karnataka (the Indian state where the restaurant is located), and 01 the RTO district – here, Bengaluru.
Visual Identity & Mood
To develop visual cues, we merged moods of a modern desi garage and a cluster of street-food stalls with that of late-night India.

KA and 01 are the first two, and most essential, components of a vehicle number plate in India and in this case Bengaluru. KA represents Karnataka (the Indian state where the restaurant is located), and 01 the RTO district – here, Bengaluru. Designing the logo independently without keeping this in mind would not complement the name as a whole (recall needs to be as quick as possible). Moreover, the next time a native sees a number plate, he/she should remember KA 01. There are different colour codes for number plates, we took the commercial ones. Rust is an inspiration for the interiors & is commonly witnessed at late night eateries, garages, dhabas, etc. We wanted to convert the real world rust into a digital/visual form & thus, datamoshing - the process of manipulating the data of media files in order to achieve visual or auditory effects when the file is decoded and effects like video corruption can be achieved through this process. This trend has been elevated by pop-culture. We merged all of these inspirations to match the visual pillars of the brand.
THE F&B VOCAB GUIDE | A QUIRKY BOOKLET.
To re-iterate KA.01’s passion for late-night India, we created an F&B Vocab Guide that also acts as a memento for guests. The guide contains quirky slangs and jargons that are viewed through a whole new lens. It is sure to make late-night India regulars as well as new comers smile. It subtly highlights KA.01’s expertise in the subject.
